How to repair stripped screw holes for a door hinge.

Open the door wide and insert a wedge under the bottom outside corner to level it. Remove the loose screws and the hinge. This is not how i usually would do this fix but thought people would like the mi. A how to video my first of many to come looking forward to sharing.

Plug holes with golf tees if the holes are big enough. To make sure it stays centered start with 1 8 inch and work your way up. Pick a bit slightly smaller than the insert width for a tight fit. Once the door hinge is out of the way carefully drill out the hole where the screw used to be.

If the hinge and jamb are painted cut the paint around the leaf with a utility knife swing the leaf away from the jamb. The dowel i bought was 48 long so i cut off three pieces that were around 1 5 long. Then bore out the stripped holes with a 3 8 inch diameter bit. Using your 3 8 drill bit drill out the old screw holes.

If you have a heavy door that seems to have a loose hinge it could be that either the door hinge screws are stripped or the screw hole is stripped. When you first notice this it is important that you fix the problem as soon as you can.
